The Members of the Executive Council

José Damiani – President Emeritus

José Damiani from Paris, France, was unanimously elected President Emeritus in March 2013. He was President of the French Bridge Federation from 1978 to 1983, President of the European Bridge League from 1987 to 1995 and President of the WBF from 1994 to 2010.

Prior to his election as President, he was 1st Vice-President and has been a member of the Executive Council since his first election in 1981. He was awarded the title of Chairman Emeritus in Philadelphia, USA, in 2010 following his retirement as WBF President.

IBPA Personality of the Year in 1986, he has been awarded the EBL Gold Medal in 1995, when he was elected by acclamation EBL President Emeritus. He is Chairman of the WBF Honour Committee and is Founder President of the International Mind Sport Association, whose he was President from 2007 to 2013.

ZENG PEIYAN - President of the Congress

Zeng Peiyan, from Shaoxing, China was elected President of the WBF Congress in 2012.

Zeng is one of the pre-eminent figures in the development and affirmation of the Chinese bridge movement.

He served as Vice Premier of the Chinese State Council from 2003 to 2008.

He is now Chairman of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges.

 

JOHN WIGNALL - 1st Vice-President

John Wignall from Christchurch, New Zealand, was re-elected as 1st Vice-President in 2010.

He has been a member of the Executive Council since his election in 1986 and was 1st Vice-President from 2002 to 2006 then Executive Vice-President from 2006 to 2010.

He is President of the South Pacific Zonal Conference. He is a member of the Management Committee and is Chairman of the Rules & Regulation Committee and the Systems Committee.

He is a member of the WBF Honour Committee.

ALVIN LEVY - Executive Vice-President

Alvin Levy from Commack, New York State, USA, was elected Executive Vice-President in 2010.

He has been a member of the Executive Council since his election in 2004. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the ACBL since his election in 1999, and was President in 2003.

He has organized and directed the annual World Computer Bridge Championship since its inception in 1997. He is a member of the Management Committee and is Chairman of the Technological Commission and was awarded the WBF Silver Medal in 2013.

He is a member of the WBF Honour Committee.

YVES AUBRY - Vice-President

Yves Aubry from Plescop, France, was elected Vice-President in 2014.

He became a member of the FFB Management Committee in 1989, a Vice- President 1995, and was elected President in 2006, serving in this office until 2010.

Having been a member of the EBL Executive Council since 2003, he became 1st Vice-President in 2007 and is currently President since his first election in 2010. He has been a member of the WBF Executive Council since 2007, and became Vice-President in 2014.

In 2005 he received the French National Silver Medal for Youth and Sport and in 2008 was awarded the EBL Gold Medal.

He is a member of the WBF Management Committee and Chairman of the Credentials Committee.

PATRICK CHOY - Vice-President

Patrick Choy from Singapore, was re-elected as a Vice-President in 2010.

He has been a member of the Executive Council since his election in 1991 and has been Vice-President since 1996.

He was awarded the WBF Gold Medal in 2007.

He is a member of the WBF Management Committee and the WBF Honour Committee.

 

RADOSLAW KIELBASINSKI - Vice-President

Radoslaw Kielbasinski from Warsaw, Poland, was elected as a Vice- President in 2010.

Member of the Executive Council from 2003 to 2007 he was subsequently re-elected in 2010. In 1989 he was elected to the Executive Committee of the Polish Bridge Union, he was first elected President in 2000 and served until 2016.

He has been a member of the Executive Committee of the European Bridge League since 1995, and 2nd Vice-President since 2003. He was an elected member of the WBF Executive Council from 2003 to 2007, and re-elected in 2010.

He was IBPA Personality of the Year in 2004, and awarded the EBL Gold Medal in 2006.

He is member of the Finance Committee and Youth Committee.

MAZHAR JAFRI - Vice-President

Mazhar Jafri from Karachi, Pakistan, was re-elected as a Vice-President in 2010.

He has been a member of the Executive Council since his election in 1980 and has been a Vice-President since 1991.

He was President of the Asia and Middle East Zonal Conference from 1980 to 2002, being elected President Emeritus in 2003.

He is a member of the Management Committee, and was awarded the WBF Gold Medal in 2004.

He is a member of the WBF Honour Committee.

MARC DE PAUW - Treasurer

Marc De Pauw, from Destelbergen, Belgium, where he has been Mayor since 1995, was elected as WBF Treasurer in 2010, having been a member of the Executive Council since 2003.

Elected as a member of the European Bridge League in 1999, he was Treasurer from 1999 to 2010 and is currently the 1st Vice-President.

He has been President of the Royal Belgian Bridge Federation since first elected in 2009 and was awarded the EBL Gold Medal in 2010.

He is a member of the WBF Honour Committee, and also of the Management Committee and is Chairman of the Finance Committee.

GEORGIA HETH - Hon. Secretary

Georgia Heth from Morton, Illinois, USA, was elected as WBF Hon. Secretary in November 2012.

She has been a member of the Executive Council since her election in 2009.

She is a member of the Management Committee and Chairman of the Admission, Zoning & Infrastructure Committee.

She has been a member of the ACBL Board of Directors since her election in 2002.

She was elected to the WBF Honour Committee in 2016.

 

SEVINÇ ATAY - Member

Sevinç Atay from Istanbul, Turkey, was elected as a member of the Executive Council in 2010.

She was a member of the Board of the Turkish Bridge Federation from its foundation in 1998 to 2010, being Vice-President from 2006 to 2008.

She was Coordinator of the Organisation both of the World Bridge Olympiad 2004 and the World Youth Teams Championship 2014. She has been a member of the EBL Executive Committee since her first election in 2003.

She was awarded the WBF Gold Medal in 2014 and is Chairman of the Kids Committee and Co-Chairman of the Women’s Committee.

MARCELO CARACCI - Member

Marcelo Caracci from Santiago, Chile, was elected as a member of the Executive Council in 2015.

He was General Director of the Federación Chilena de Bridge in 2007, and elected President in 2009.

He has been a member of the board of the Confederación Sudamericana de Bridge since 2009, Vice-President in 2014, then taking over as temporary President, following the death of Ernesto d’Orsi in January 2015 following which he was elected President in May 2015.

He is member of the WBF Finance Committee.

CHEN ZELAN - Member

Chen Zelan from Beijing, China, was elected as a member of the Executive Council in 2010 and re-elected in 2015.

She has been 1st Vice-President of the Pacific Asia Bridge Federation since 2007 and Vice-President of Chinese Contract Bridge Association since 2008.

She was awarded the WBF Gold Medal in 2014 and elected to the WBF Honour Committee in 2016.

 

 

GIORGIO DUBOIN - Member

Giorgio Duboin, from Torino, Italy, member of the High Level Players Commission since 2010, was elected member of the Executive Council in 2015, as representative of the HLPs.

WBF World Grand Master, 5th in the WBF Open ranking, he won 3 World Bridge Games, previously Bridge Olympiads (2000,04, 08), 2 World Teams Championship - Bermuda Bowl (2005 and 2013), 1 World Open Team Championship - Rosenblum Cup (2002), 7 European Teams Championship (1997, 99, 2001, 02, 04, 06, 10).

 

JOSEF HARSANYI - Member

Josef Harsanyi was born in Hungary, and became a German citizen in 1998, and now lives in Berghausen. He was elected as a member of the Executive Council in 2014.

He has been a member of the Board of the Ger- man Bridge Federation since his election in 2008 and Vice-President since 2014, being responsible for the sports and international relations.

He was elected as a member of the Executive Committee of the European Bridge League in 2010, and has been EBL Treasurer since 2014.

He is Chairman of the WBF TDs Committee and a member of the Finance Committee.

PAUL JANICKI - Member

Paul Janicki, from Markham, Ontario, Canada, was elected as a member of the Executive Council in 2013.

He is a bridge teacher and Editor and Writer for Chess Canada Magazine. He became a club manager in the early 1990s, then went on to become Unit 246 Secretary 1997-2008 and a member ACBL Board of Governors 2005-7 and became the District 2 Director since 2009.

He has been a member of the ACBL Board of Directors since 2009 and is Chairman of the Seniors Committee.

 

BERNARD PASCAL - Member

Bernard Pascal from Cairo, Egypt, was elected as a member of the Executive Council in 2009.

 

He was a Vice-President of the Egyptian Bridge Federation and has been President of the Africa Zonal Conference since his first election in 2009.

He is a member of the Credential Committee and Finance Committee.

 

SHEENA RAYNER - Member

Sheena Rayner, from Bermuda, was elected as a member of the Executive Council in 2014.

She is President of the Central America & Caribbean Bridge Federation since 2014, having previously been a Vice-President from 2009 to 2013. She was President of the Organizing Committee of the 34th World Teams Championships held in Bermuda in 2000.

She is a member of the Admission, Zoning & Infrastructure Committee and the Protocol-Ceremony Committee.

 

JANICE SEAMON-MOLSON - Member

Janice Seamon-Molson, from Hollywood, Florida, USA, member of the High Level Players Commission since 2014, was elected to the Executive Council in 2015, as a representative of the HLPs.

 

She is a WBF World Grand Master, 7th in the WBF Women’s Ranking and a 4 times World Champion, Montecarlo 2003, Verona 2006, Beijing 2011 and Bali 2013.

 

MERLIN VILHAUER - Member

Merlin Vilhauer, from Beaverton, Oregon, USA, was elected as a member of the Executive Council in 2014.

He is the ACBL District 20 Board webmaster, and was elected District Director in 2010.

 

He is a member of the ACBL Board of Directors and a member of the WBF Technological Commission.

 

HOWARD WEINSTEIN - Member

Howard Weinstein, from Omaha, Nebraska, USA, was elected as a member of the Executive Council in 2014.

He was President of the United States Bridge Federation from 2013 to 2017. He took the Silver Medal in the World Teams Championship 2007 in Shanghai, and is a WBF World Life Master.

He is a member of the Rules & Regulations Committee.

 

DAVID HARRIS - General Counsel

David Harris from London, England, was appointed WBF General Counsel in 2014.

He joined the Board of the English Bridge Union in 1990, was Vice-Chairman from 1994 to 1998, and Chairman from 1999 to 2002. He has been Honorary Counsel to the English Bridge Union since 2006, and was appointed as a Vice-President in 2008.

He was elected as a member of the EBL Executive Committee in 2003, acting as Treasurer from 2010 to 2014 and is a current member of the Presidential Council.

He was a member of the WBF Executive Council from 2012 to 2014.

He is Chairman of the Constitution & By-Laws Committee.

ROBERT S. (BOBBY) WOLFF - Past President

Bobby Wolff, from Fort Worth, Texas, USA, was elected President of the American Contract Bridge League in 1987 and Chairman of the Board of the ACBL in 1988.

He was President of the WBF from 1992 to 1994.

A World Grand Master, he was the first player to win a World Championship while serving as a member of the Executive Council and is the first player (followed in 2010 by Fulvio Fantoni from Italy) to win five different World Championship Titles: the World Teams Olympiad, the Bermuda Bowl, the World Open Pairs, the World Transnational Mixed Teams and the World Senior Teams.

He is a member of the Honour Committee.
