Discovering Petit Bridge in Santiago: A Powerful Tool for Learning

Discovering Petit Bridge in Santiago: A Powerful Tool for Learning

By In News On 13th June 2025

Santiago, Chile – May 2025: An original and innovative training session, organized by the French Bridge Federation, was held at the Lycée Français de Santiago for school principals from the AEFE network – South Latin America zone (southern schedule). This initiative is part of the partnership agreement between the French Bridge Federation and the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) and is fully aligned with the educational guidelines of the French Ministry of National Education.

The goal was twofold: to introduce Petit Bridge as an educational tool, and to allow the Chilean and Brazilian Bridge Federations, who were invited for the occasion, to better understand the French methodological approachthat integrates games into a structured educational context.

🃏 Petit Bridge, far more than just a card game, is a cross-disciplinary educational tool. It fosters the development of mathematical, language, psychosocial, and physical skills, while also promoting focus, cooperation, and logical reasoning.

In this approach, the game is not an end in itself, but a means to support core learning objectives, integrated into a coherent progression.

💻 Participants took part in a training program that combined theoretical input with hands-on practice in an alternating and continuous format. This structure allowed them to directly experiment with the activities and analyze them from a pedagogical perspective, with a particular focus on problem-solving situations in mathematics and communication skills.

🎓 This dynamic enabled school leaders to gain ownership of the Petit Bridge approach with a view to classroom implementation, while engaging in meaningful pedagogical exchanges with representatives from the bridge federations.
They will now be able to offer teacher training within their schools, delivered by the French Bridge Federation, to support the implementation of the game in the classroom in alignment with the learning goals.

🌍 Petit Bridge also acts as a strong cultural and Francophone vector, fully in line with the values upheld by the AEFE network around the world, strengthening the link between school and society.

🤝 This training also facilitated initial connections between the local bridge federations and the attending school leaders, paving the way for future partnerships with local bridge clubs.
These new collaborations could lead to the creation of bridge workshops in middle and high schools, complementing primary school projects and offering a continuity of educational and cultural engagement around this mind sport.

🙏 Sincere thanks to Ms. Sandrine CHERY, Inspector of National Education for the zone, for coordinating this meaningful event, and to the Chilean and Brazilian Bridge Federations for their attentive and curious participation.
Special thanks to the Chilean Bridge Federation, represented in person in Santiago by Mr. Alejandro Cabezas Lafuente (President) and Ms. Ximena Aldunate Lyon (Secretary and Director), and to the Brazilian Bridge Federation, represented via videoconference by Mr. Alejandro Quiroga and Ms. Aline Biondillo, both bridge teachers.

We also extend our warm thanks to Mr. Frederico KALDT and Mr. Fernando LEMA for their support, contacts, and valuable discussions in organizing this initiative.
