Bridge is one of the finest mind sports, and certainly the richest of all card games. Like chess, the basic rules are quick to learn and you can keep improving throughout your life. But unlike chess, bridge is played as a team, which makes it a truly unique human experience.

Essential rules

You play with your cards at the bottom of the screen, and with your partner’s cards at the top.
The two players on your left and right form the opposing team.

• The rank of the cards is standard: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10… down to 2.
• Play proceeds clockwise.
• One rule matters above all: if you can follow suit, you must follow suit.
• The highest card in the suit led wins the trick and leads to the next one.

The goal (simplified): win as many tricks as possible for your side.
