It is with profound sadness that the World Bridge Federation learned of the passing of Mr. Mazhar Jafri on 14 March 2026 in Karachi.
Mazhar Jafri was a stalwart of World Bridge, being a member of the WBF Executive Council from his election in 1980 until 2018, committed to the successful development of the WBF. Additionally, he was a WBF Vice-President from 1991 to 2018.
His enormous contribution was duly recognised by the World Bridge Federation and in 1998 in Lille he was elected to the WBF Committee of Honour and awarded the WBF Gold Pin and in 2004 in Istanbul he was awarded the WBF Gold Medal.
Mazhar was a Founder Member of the Bridge Federation of Asia and the Middle East (BFAME) and Zone IV Representative to the WBF Council for four decades from 1979 to 2019, building a record of service that speaks for itself. As President of BFAME from 1995 to 2003, and subsequently as President Emeritus, he shaped the development of bridge across an entire zone with vision, integrity, and quiet determination.
The World Bridge Federation is deeply grateful to have counted Mr. Jafri among its most dedicated ambassadors. His influence on the governance and international growth of our sport will not be forgotten.
The world bridge community holds Mr. Jafri’s family and the entire BFAME community in its thoughts.
