 • The Championships

The 40th World Bridge Team Championships comprise the following competitions:

40th World Zonal Open Team Championship for the Bermuda Bowl
18th World Zonal Women Team Championship for the Venice Cup
6th World Zonal Senior Team Championship for the d'Orsi Senior Bowl
8th Transnational Open Team Championship

Each of the three World Zonal Team Championships will be played as a single round robin, with all participating teams meeting each other. At the end of the round robin, the top teams will advance to the knockout stage, consisting of the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals. The quarter finals of each competition will be concluded before the start of the Transnational Open Teams, thus enabling eliminated players to compete in this tournament.

The Transnational Open Team Championship will take place during the second week, starting in the late afternoon on Monday 24 October 2011. The format will be Swiss Teams, to be played in 15 qualifying rounds of 10-board matches (3, 4 or 5 matches a day for a total of 150 boards). A knockout phase (quarterfinals, semifinals, final) will follow.
