On a day when there were few surprises in either event, the major upset was probably Dhondy's defeat of Terraneo in the Women's event. Three of the Austrians were in the team that won in Lille. The McConnell has reached the quarter final stage and today features four intriguing matches between outstanding teams, with the highlight being the repeat of the thrilling Venice Cup final in Paris when Germany pipped France at the last moment.

The last Canadian team bowed out of the Power Rosenblum when Fergani lost to the powerful Munawar team from Indonesia. Kowalski from Poland had to come from behind in the last quarter to pip Johnson from USA, while Ziggy from Australia won the last set 33-5 against Attanasio from Italy to fall short by 4 IMPs. All the top eight seeds survived, but only two of the 9-16 seeding bracket, Fredin and Cayne managed to join them. USA has the most representatives in the last 16 with five teams, followed by Poland with three and Italy with two.
